Handdrawn Type

For my hand drawn type, I emulated the style of Jonny Hannah's type on a book of jazz artists. To start with, I copied the text from a page in the book to get an idea of the style and process of making it.
I first drew all the words out in ink on paper, I then scanned it onto photoshop and changed the levels. I then arrange and coloured the text appropriately.
Then I wrote out the title of the article i'm using 5 different styles, which I then matched together and coloured them.

Digital Type

For my digital type, I found two different typefaces, I then changed them to look battered and rough, as it fits with the lives of the artists that I am using for my work. I then laid out the two types as the title of the article I am illustrating for.

For my first I used a brush on photoshop and brushed out parts of each letter to make it look scratched and worn.

For the second type, I cut up parts of of the text and shifted these parts, it was to make an effect that looked a little like smashed glass.

Artist Emulation

For my artist emulation I decided to use Nick Drake, one of the musicians I am using in my piece. I used his hometown Tanworth-in-arden, which is a traditional English town. This meant that in the place of the lines used to represent the wood around the house on the original, I used patterns of brick in some places.

Artist Copy

I copied the front cover of Little Wolves by James Hindle.

I started by drawing the image in pencil, I then inked it. I then moved it into photoshop removed the white from the background and used the brush tool for the colours of it.
